Parent's Guide to Our Hospital School
We are here to support your child's education and emotional well-being while they are in our care. We can provide a letter of attendance for your school and your child will be enrolled in our school if they attend.
School Room
At Tallaght Hospital School, we support pupils from Junior Infants through to post-primary level. When a child is medically well enough, we encourage attendance in our schoolroom where they can continue their learning in a safe, supportive and welcoming environment. Our aim is to provide normality, routine and connection during a hospital stay, while working closely with families, medical staff and each child’s home school to support their educational, social and emotional wellbeing.
School Packs
Our school packs are thoughtfully designed to support children who are unable to attend school, helping them stay connected to learning during their time away from the classroom. Tailored for each class level, from Junior Infants to Post-Primary, every pack includes age-appropriate activities and essential learning materials such as pencils, colours, copies, and educational resources to encourage creativity, comfort, and continued learning at bedside.
Children are also welcome to bring their packs to the schoolroom, where our teachers can support them in completing activities and continuing their learning in a warm and encouraging environment.
Contacting the home school
We believe that working closely with teachers from a child’s home school is essential for supporting a child to maintain an interest in learning whilst in hospital and for preparing them to return to full-time school post-discharge.
Canteen / coffee
The phoenix cafe is located on the ground floor of the hospital and serves fresh food and sandwiches. Parents are usually grateful for the oppertunity to grab a cup of coffee while their child is attending school, alternatively there is a seating area outside of the school.
Transition Back Home
At Tallaght Hospital School, we understand that returning home and back to school after a hospital stay can feel like a big step for both children and families. Our team works closely with parents, hospital staff and home schools to support each child’s transition, helping to maintain routines, confidence and connections with learning while ensuring the move back to everyday school life is as positive and supported as possible.
